The only thing this unit has to offer over a regular keyboard hack is the pass-through feature. Other than that it is the same as what you would find inside most inexpensive keyboards. ALL matrix by their nature are prone to ghosting and masking. With a 16x8 array, the maximum number of simultaneous inputs is 16,about the same as a $9.00 generic keyboard tou can get anywhere. If you don't need more than 16 discreet inputs, hack a keyboard. What the Haggstrom offers is the ability to use a 2x22 matrix. This gives one the option of having 2 players with 6 buttons each with no chance of ghosting (refer to the INTERFACE METHODS section of this page under the section Keyboard Port - Keyboard Encoders for a diagram of this matrix).

IN MY OPINION:
You can build Stephan Han's dual keyboard circuit (linked below) for less than @10.00US and hack a $9.00US keyboard and have all the functionality of the Audon KBE-1.

Hope this helps....
